Missouri unemployment dips to 6.3 percent

Missouri’s August 2014 unemployment rate fell to 6.3 percent, down slightly from the July rate of 6.5 percent, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

The state’s nonfarm payroll fell by 3,100 jobs in August, with losses coming in the durable goods manufacturing, health care and social assistance sectors.

The Missouri unemployment rate is above the national rate of 6.1 percent, but has fallen from 6.7 percent since March 2014. In the past year, the state has added more than 49,000 nonfarm jobs.
