A coalition of business and civic leaders from the Kansas City area on Tuesday announced an effort, KC Rising, aimed at countering the region’s sluggish economic growth rate. The effort comes in response to a Brookings report released this summer that showed Kansas City has been slow to recover after the recession and trails many of its peer cities in job creation.
KC Rising will focus on three major factors: people, innovation and global trade. One target of the initiative will be to stanch the loss of well-educated professionals and attract more of the talent needed to foster competitiveness.
The Mid-America Regional Council, the Kansas City Economic Development Council and the Civic Council, an organization of local business leaders, are providing funding and staffing for the initiative. No budget or timeline for the effort has been set.
