Jobs up, unemployment down in Missouri, BLS reports

Missouri saw a decrease in unemployment during 2014, according to new estimates released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The state recorded an unemployment rate of 5.4 percent at the end of 2014, down from 6 percent in December 2013. The national unemployment rate decreased by 1.1 percentage points, to 5.6 percent, at the end of the year, putting Missouri’s jobless rate below the national average.

Data from these surveys listed 2,793,300 employees on nonfarm payrolls in Missouri at the end of 2014, an increase of 45,000 over the previous year.
