Revised numbers suggest minimal job growth in St. Louis area

Revised numbers have dampened enthusiasm about job growth last year in the St. Louis area. The latest figures from the U.S. Department of Labor show a gain of 10,700 jobs in the region. That’s a steep decline from early estimates of 17,300 new jobs, and it’s barely higher than the 9,900 jobs created in the area in 2013.

Employment in the rest of the country grew 2.3 percent, but in St. Louis jobs continued to grow less than 1 percent per year.

St. Louis saw job losses in the construction and financial services sectors. Manufacturing in the region made strides, adding 2,800 jobs.
