Missouri homelessness dips 11 percent, still exceeds pre-recession level

Homelessness dropped 11 percent in Missouri this year, according to an annual report released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

However, the homelessness rate in the state still has not returned to pre-recession levels.

In St. Louis and St. Louis County, the homeless population was basically unchanged from 2014 to 2015, averaging about 1,750 both years. Between 2007 and 2015, the city hit a high of 1,506 in 2012. In 2010 it stood at 1,305, a low.

In the county, the January homeless count ranged between a low of 336 in 2007 and a high of 657 in 2011.
