Elevator Pitch: Columbia author, festival founder George opens bookstore

Already an attorney, author and the founder of Columbia’s Unbound Book Festival, Alex George recently added another job title to his resume: bookshop owner.

George opened Skylark Bookshop in August, in response to what he said was demand for a store selling new books in downtown Columbia.

“There was a gap in the market,” George said, “and that was confirmed to me by the enthusiasm that Unbound Book Festival … has had over the last few years.”

The business: Skylark Bookshop is an independent, general-interest bookshop selling new books and book-related gifts. The shop also hosts authors for book signings and readings.
