Cultivation Capital, KCRise make list of ‘most active’ VC investors

A new report on venture capital funding lists Cultivation Capital and KCRise Fund as the most prolific startup investors in Missouri and Kansas.

The report, published Feb. 1 by financial analysis platform CBInsights, looked for the “most active VC” in each U.S. state by the number of unique technology investments between 2014 and the end of January 2019.

St. Louis-based Cultivation Capital took the No. 1 spot in Missouri. Since 2012, the company has made over 100 startup investments, about half of them as lead investors, according to Crunchbase.

KCRise, which is based in the Kansas City area and topped the list for Kansas, lists 15 startups in its portfolio.

Many of Cultivation Capital’s investments, typically ranging from $250,000 to $1 million, are concentrated in early-stage life sciences and technology startups.

Five startups the firm has invested in have been acquired to date, including medical device startup Veniti Inc., which sold for $160 million last August.
