Student-run Sweet Tea Cosmetics offers makeup, salon services ‘to everyone’

When Teanna Bass decided to start a business, she was 19 years old, about to begin her sophomore year in college and going through what she describes as a “very, very tough stage in my life.”

Today, more than two years later, Bass is a senior at the University of Missouri. Her business, Sweet Tea Cosmetics, sells makeup and provides salon services out of a space in the MU Student Center.

Last fall, Bass was selected to participate in the University of Missouri System’s inaugural Entrepreneur Quest student accelerator, a program designed to help fuel the growth of student enterprises.

Her business, Bass says, is “dedicated to serving face to everyone.” For emphasis, she adds: “And I mean everyone.”

The pitch:

The business: Sweet Tea Cosmetics is “a fresh, modernistic makeup brand dedicated to serving face to everyone.”
