Two Missouri executives are among 10 winners of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur Of The Year award for the Heartland region.
John Thomson, founder and CEO of Kansas City-based PayIt, and Mike Black, chief executive of Dent Wizard International in Bridgeton, both made the list, which was announced Thursday.
The Heartland region includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. Ernst & Young, or EY, the global accounting firm, names regional winners across the country and recognizes entrepreneurs in both national and worldwide competitions.
Regional winners were chosen for their ability to overcome adversity, show commitment to establishing a company based on values and exhibit innovation, as well as their financial performance, societal impact and talent management, according to a press release.
Thomson founded PayIt in 2013 and has grown the business to employ more than 100 people, according to Startland News. The company, which makes a software platform to help facilitate government transactions like vehicle registration and utility payment, recently announced it is opening an office in Canada.
Black started at Dent Wizard in 2003 and became CEO in 2018, according to the company, which specializes in automotive repairs and reconditioning.
Thomson, Black and the other regional EY winners are eligible for the national Entrepreneur of the Year awards, which will be named during a virtual event held on Nov. 19.
