UMKC Awarded $1 Million Federal Grant to Spur Tech Start-ups

The U.S. Department of Commerce on Wednesday awarded a $1 millon grant to the University of Missouri-Kansas City to help launch information technology start-ups in the Kansas City area.

A university consortium, led by the school’s Innovation Center, was among a number of academic groups around the country to be awarded funds. The awards, through the government’s i6 Challenge, are highly competitive and there is only one recipient in each of the Commerce Department’s multi-state regions, UMKC said in a statement.
