KC Startup Local Ruckus Raises $500,000, Doesn’t Give Up Equity

For startup companies, finding the funds needed to survive often means maxing out credit cards or forking over equity to investors. Not so for Kansas City, Kan.-based startup Local Ruckus, which recently raised about $500,000 without having to give up equity in the company.

Local Ruckus, a company with a website for publicizing, finding and sharing events, scrapped together its funding through a distributor partnership with Overland Park, Kan.-based Sprint Corp., selection in the Digital Sandbox program and a Workforce Partnership grant. The piecemeal fundraising brought in enough money for the six-employee company to hire two new employees in preparation for its nationwide launch.
