Ohio VC Firm Eyes St. Louis For Part Of Planned $300 Million Fund

Venture capital firm Drive Capital has raised $181 million of a new $300 million tech startup fund, and it hopes to invest some of that in St. Louis-area companies.

The Columbus, Ohio-based firm, which made its first filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission this week, invests in technology, tech services, health care and consumer industries. Drive’s co-founders have both visited St. Louis multiple times and say a handful of area companies piqued their interest. They point to payments startup Square, a company based in San Francisco but co-founded by St. Louisians Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey, as an example of the sort of company Drive would invest in and try to keep local.
