Secretary of State Jason Kander said during his statewide tour of business incubators and innovation centers that he’s more interested in investing in companies founded in Missouri as opposed to luring companies — and their jobs — here. Poaching, he said, can sometimes lead to swapping a handful of jobs back and forth across state lines, especially in Kansas City.
Kander, while visiting the new Downtown T-REx co-working space in St. Louis, said his wife is an entrepreneur and has seen first hand how challenging the process of forming a new company can be. “I’m really interested in the startup space and really feel like it’s the future of economic development here in Missouri,” he said.
Kander said aside from initiatives such as the Business Outreach Office, he hopes to make more frequent trips to T-REx to help assist entrepreneurs.
