Growing Missouri Startups: A Panel On Incubators And Accelerators (Video)

Data released in April by the Kansas City-based Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation shows that the percentage of Missouri adults to launch businesses slowed last year, falling to .22 percent after hitting .35 percent in 2012. But that slowdown wasn’t accompanied by any sort of downshift in the pace of activity among the state’s startup accelerators and incubators.

As one glance at a map of the state’s startup support organizations shows, accelerators and incubators — that is, outfits that provide early-stage companies some combination of funding, physical space, mentorship, introductions and professional services — are proliferating across the Show-Me State. The landscape today is far different than it was five, and even three, years ago. In Missouri, the business of helping young businesses is booming.

Missouri Business Alert took a closer look at the state’s accelerators and incubators during a panel conversation on Tuesday. Kevin Fryer of SparkLabKC, Brian Kincaid of The eFactory, Matt Menietti of SixThirty and Blake Miller of the Think Big Accelerator participated in the live webcast, and viewers joined in the conversation on social media using #GrowMoStartups.

A recording of the panel is available in the video player above. A sampling of Missouri Business Alert‘s recent coverage of the state’s accelerators and incubators can be found below.
