New businesses bring boost to St. Louis’ Hyde Park neighborhood

The Hyde Park neighborhood in St. Louis has seen recent growth in its entrepreneur population. Several small businesses have opened in the neighborhood over the last 10 years, creating new jobs and resources for the area.

Between 1990 and 2010, the north St. Louis neighborhood lost about 45 percent of its population. Empty homes and vacant lots became a more prominent part of the landscape.

So the arrival of new businesses is a welcome sign for locals who have seen their community shrink.

Entrepreneurs see value in the location because of the low cost of real estate in the area, and some have been able to afford to expand their business because of these low prices.
