Teespring, a website co-founded by St. Louis native Walker Williams that helps users crowdfund custom apparel, has raised a $35 million round of investment.
Williams helped start the company in 2011, when he was a student at Brown University. The company, which has been dubbed by some as “Kickstarter for T-shirts,” still makes its headquarters in Providence, R.I.
But Williams isn’t Teespring’s only tie to Missouri: Sam Altman, another St. Louisan and the president of tech accelerator Y Combinator, is an investor in Teespring. Altman, who joined Teepsring’s board after helping the company raise an angel round last year, grew up on the same block as Williams.
