Former Answers executive launching Series A venture fund

Tom Hillman, managing partner at FTL Capital Partners and a former Answers Corp. executive, is launching a new private equity firm to help St. Louis and Midwestern startups raise Series A investment.

The firm, called Lewis and Clark Ventures, will invest in high-growth companies in amounts between $3 million and $7 million. It will invest in sectors including technology, energy, life sciences and biotech.

Hillman, who was bought out of Answers when the company was acquired in a deal worth an estimated $900 million, will be joined by Scott Bernstein, formerly of St. Louis tech accelerator Capital Innovators, in starting Lewis and Clark.
