Gov. Jay Nixon on Wednesday celebrated the $16 million in funding the Missouri Legislature appropriated for the Missouri Technology Corporation in its recently approved budget. The governor also announced the release of an additional $1 million in funding for the organization.

The Missouri Technology Corporation, which provides early-stage capital to startup ventures in the state, is an important tool for spurring entrepreneurial activity.

“Folks are getting back to work and we think investing in these types of startups that have good ideas and good strong workforce right here in downtown St. Louis is an excellent way to accelerate the recovery,” Nixon said during an appearance at T-REX, a technology incubator in downtown St. Louis that’s one of 65 organizations to have received MTC funding.
