Deals in St. Louis create strong venture capital quarter for Missouri

Venture capitalists invested more than $100 million in Missouri in the third quarter, making it the best quarter for venture activity since 1998, according to the quarterly MoneyTree report published by PwC and the National Venture Capital Association.

Nearly all of those deals happened in St. Louis. Two St. Louis deals helped lead the charge — Veran Medical Technologies’ $41.7 million capital raise and MediBeacon’s $22.4 million round.

Other large rounds for the quarter include Vasculox’s $8.1 million raise, Advanced ICU Care’s $7.3 million raise and Benson Hill BioSystems’ $7.3 million round.

Year-to-date, Missouri companies have raised just shy of $147 million from venture capitalists, which is about flat from last year’s total but significantly higher than 2013’s pace.
