The report ranked the 100 largest metro areas using statistical measures grouped into three categories: percentage of businesses owned by women; those businesses’ number of employees, revenue and growth; and whether an area had a Small Business Administration women’s business center. The factors were weighted to give a ranking for “female entrepreneurship.”

Data used to create the rankings were collected from the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Small Business Administration and WalletHub research.
