St. Louis startups see ample money, fewer deals in first half of year

St. Louis startups raised $104 million across 23 deals over the first half of the year, according to new data from the National Venture Capital Association.

That dollar amount represents one of the better first-half totals of the last decade for the area, but the deal count was one of the lowest of the last 10 years.

That mirrors a broader national trend being seen in early-stage investing: fewer companies raising larger totals.

Nationally, startups raised $57 billion over the first half of the year, topping full-year totals for six of the last 10 years. But deal flow was on pace to hit its lowest mark since 2012.
