Columbians can now get in on an activity previously reserved primarily for lumberjacks. COMO Axe Attack, Columbia’s first axe-throwing location, officially opened in late August.
Co-owner Trevor Hodges said he hadn’t tried the sport until recently, but once he threw that first axe into the target, he knew he was hooked. The owners include three pairs of spouses: Hodges and his wife, Tabitha; Ryan and Cassie Wiemholt; and Ben and Mary Wiemholt.
For $25 per person, friends and coworkers can lob hatchets into a wooden target for an hour and a half. Hodges said the business had plans to begin serving alcohol and host an axe-throwing league.
COMO Axe Attack joins a trend of axe-throwing locations that are popping up in bigger Midwestern cities like St. Louis, Kansas City and Chicago.
COMO Axe Attack is Columbia’s first axe-throwing venue. Its owners say they help customers have “an axe-kicking good time.” The business caters to corporate and team-building events, holiday parties, birthday parties and more. It’s an affiliate of the World Axe Throwing League and will host leagues throughout the year.
