Missouri companies raised $365 million in venture capital in the third quarter, according to the PwC MoneyTree report. That represents the largest quarterly haul for Missouri companies in records dating back to 1995.
That total was more than double the $177 million raised by Missouri companies in the third quarter of 2017. It represented 1.3 percent of the national venture capital haul for the third quarter of 2018, making Missouri the seventh-most active state for venture deals during that period.
The bulk of that capital went to companies in the St. Louis area. The biggest deals included:
- A $266 million investment in Essence Group Holdings, a health-care software firm based in Maryland Heights
- A $60 million round raised by Benson Hill Biosystems, a Creve Coeur-based agtech company
The report did not include a $150 million investment round for Galera Therapeutics announced in September.
