Tuesday

RJI Tech Showcase 2014

All day at Reynolds Journalism Institute, Room 200 (401 South 9th St., Columbia)

The 2014 Tech Showcase will give a first look at some of the projects and ideas students and others have been working on at the Missouri School of Journalism and elsewhere. This event is free and open to all. Presentations will include the 2013-2014 RJI Student Competition winner and other tech-related capstone class projects.

FastTrac NewVenture (Session 4 of 5)

9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Kansas City SCORE, Room 114 (4747 Troost, Kansas City)

In FastTrac NewVenture, a program of Kansas City’s Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the UMKC SBTDC and University of Missouri Extension, you will look at all aspects of your proposed company, exploring the feasibility of your business concept and learning how to develop a viable business plan. Participants will learn about startup issues and learn to address the competition, legal matters, marketing and financial management aspects. FastTrac participants don’t just learn about business, they work on their own business endeavors throughout the course. This program is fast-paced and energizing, using guest speakers and lots of group breakout activities.

Central Exchange Leadership Lyceum

All day at the Overland Park Convention Center (6000 College Blvd., Overland Park, Kan.)

The Central Exchange Leadership Lyceum is the premier leadership development event for women and men in the Kansas City area. This one-day leadership conference brings together executives, managers, entrepreneurs and community leaders for a day of inspiration, education and networking.

Digital Consumer Workshop

3-5 p.m. at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts (1601 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City)

Join KCnext and Accenture for the Digital Consumer Workshop. Get the results of Accenture’s latest consumer research, and hear from senior thought leaders on the latest strategies to better engage your customers. Guests will also experience demonstrations on some of the latest technologies to keep the non-stop digital consumer satisfied.

This gathering of senior executives will have the opportunity to engage in demonstrations and lively peer-only discussion, which will continue over cocktails.

HackEDkc

All day at Discovery Middle School (800 Midjay Drive, Liberty)

HackEDkc is a student hackathon where students are challenged to solve a problem in their home, school, or community through the use of technology. Students have 24 hours to build their app and will have 3 minutes to demo to a panel of judges. Work will be judged on technical efficacy, community impact, and innovation.
