Increase your business opportunities at this monthly small business networking event, hosted by the KC Chamber, with more than 150 other KC professionals — from small to large businesses, government reps, and business resource providers. Join Kansas City Small Business Networking as we kick off the celebration for Minority Owned Businesses. MED Week is an opportunity for the Kansas City business community to come together to recognize the contributions made by minority business enterprises and honor accomplished minority business owners throughout the community.

St. Louis Speaker Series: Martin Sheen

8-9:30 p.m. at Powell Symphony Hall (718 North Grand Blvd., St. Louis)

The recipient of numerous acting awards, Sheen has been a star of the silver screen for more than 50 years. Although most recently lauded for his performance as President Josiah Bartlet in the award-winning television series “The West Wing,” he first achieved fame in the 1970s with roles in the films “Badlands” and “Apocalypse Now.”

Rise & Shine Networking Group

7-8:30 a.m. at Greater St. Charles County Chamber of Commerce (2201 First Capitol Drive, St. Charles)

Only one person from a profession/business will be represented in this group. Visitors (including non-Chamber members) are welcome to come twice to observe the individual groups in action as a selling tool to potential members. Each participant is encouraged to bring leads to every meeting. Each participant agrees at the time of formation that attendance is critical and if they realize they cannot live up to their obligation, they should voluntarily withdraw for the good of the group.

Operation JumpStart

9 a.m.-4 p.m. at SBTDC at Southeast Missouri State University (920 Broadway St., Cape Girardeau)

Operation JumpStart is a nationally recognized, highly successful training model for individuals considering starting or expanding a business. Participants will learn essential business planning and preparation skills such as product pricing, legal structure, competition marketing and cash flow management.

KC Chamber 2014 Energy and Environment Policy Forum and Reception

4-6:30 p.m. at KC Chamber Board Room, Union Station (30 W. Pershing Road, Kansas City)

What impact will the recently proposed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Clean Power regulations have on regional businesses? The implications for businesses both large and small could be the most significant of any legislation of this type in several decades.

The annual Energy & Environment Policy Forum will be followed by a reception honoring key energy and environmental representatives from the Missouri and Kansas legislatures, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and U.S EPA Region 7 for their partnership with business in the two-state region.

Morning Schmooze

8:45-10 a.m. at Bloch Executive Hall for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (5108 Cherry St., Kansas City)

The Chamber’s Morning Schmooze is regularly scheduled for the second Friday of the month, from 8:45 to 10 a.m.
