Starting a Business in Missouri Entrepreneur Workshop

9 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Missouri Career Center (2900 E. Sunshine St., Springfield)

Starting a Business in Missouri is a three-hour workshop created for those considering going into business for themselves designed for entrepreneurs of all ages, backgrounds, education and experience — regardless of the type of business you want to start.

9 a.m.- 11 a.m. at St. Louis Public Library (1301 Olive St., St. Louis)

Join us for coffee and a light breakfast and learn about the growing field of social enterprise from Chris Miller, CEO of the Mission Company L3C, and a panel of experts who have helped social entrepreneurs grow. Find out what it takes to get started, how some local social entrepreneurs have earned success and where you can go for more information and advice.

These lunches offer human resource practitioners of member organizations a forum to discuss best practices, trends and issues. Held every third Tuesday of each month.

St. Louis Speaker Series Presented by Maryville University: Julia Gillard

8 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at Powell Symphony Hall (718 N. Grand Blvd., St. Louis)

Gillard’s political career was crowned by her service as Prime Minister of Australia and leader of the Australian Labor Party from 2010 to 2013. She was the first woman to hold either position. Born in Wales, she moved with her family to Adelaide when she was a child. Gillard’s earlier political career included numerous cabinet and shadow cabinet positions.

The St. Louis Business Expo

11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at St. Charles Convention Center (1 Convention Center Plaza, St. Charles)

The Expo is the largest business-to-business conference in Missouri, where 2,000-3,000 professionals come to learn, network and grow their business. The day includes an opening workshop, a full day’s worth of seminars and workshops, an awards luncheon, more than 100 exhibitors and a networking happy hour. The event is free to attend.

7:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium (1 Arrowhead Drive, Kansas City)

The KSCPA Business & Industry Conference is designed to provide general and technical education of interest to business and industry. Participants work in a range of organizations and are primarily financial professionals who are CFOs, accounting and finance managers and directors, and staff accountants. CPAs in public practice also attend to gain a broader perspective of the clients they serve.

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Missouri Business magazine, is recognizing some of the best workplaces in the state of Missouri. Five businesses will be selected in our first-ever celebration of outstanding workplaces. Those businesses, as well as runners-up will showcase how to achieve a successful and productive workplace.

Pitch It & Win It

9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at Capital Event Center (623 Ohio St., Jefferson City)

StartUp Jefferson City will host its 3rd annual Pitch It & Win It event. The event will offer participants an opportunity to pitch their business idea for a chance to win a portion of $5,000 in prize money. Each participant will have five minutes to present their business idea and five minutes to answer questions from a  panel of business professionals. There is no cost to register for the event.

1 p.m.-3 p.m. at the Johnson County Library (9500 Bluejacket St., Overland Park, Kan.)

Start Up Basics focuses on testing your business idea and identifying the key factors that influence start up success. Start Up Basics provides you with an overview of the skills and tools you need when deciding to start a business; the advantages and disadvantages of owning a business; the most profitable form for your business; and the fundamentals of formation, organization, marketing, cash flow and funding sources.
