Cheers to 7 years!

Is it possible that seven exciting, challenging years have already passed since Missouri Business Alert was born?

In the late summer of 2012, we launched Missouri Business Alert to a small but engaged audience. Since that time, we’ve celebrated some major milestones, thanks in no small part to our growing community of loyal readers and supporters.

Students

We’ve employed more than 400 students from the University of Missouri’s journalism and business schools. They’ve come from every corner of Missouri, all across the U.S. and 20 countries around the world, and they’ve gone on to promising careers with top news organizations including The Associated Press, Bloomberg, CNBC and The Wall Street Journal, as well as startup companies, dynamic startups and digital agencies around the world. Check out our Alumni Achievements page to see what some of our alumni are up to.

Stories

Since 2012, we have published more than 15,000 articles and more than 2,300 email newsletters. Those have delivered a wealth of news and information about the people, companies, ideas, policies, events and trends shaping the business landscape of the Show-Me State.

This year, we revamped our Morning Minutes newsletter, increasing the breadth and depth of coverage delivered in our daily rundown of Missouri’s top business news.

Examples of our student journalists’ excellent work have been too numerous to mention in this small space, but a few recent projects we’re particularly proud of include enhanced reporting out of Kansas City thanks to a new reporting program in the city; an episodic podcast about a high-stakes student pitch competition; a months-long series on entrepreneurship in small-town Missouri; new reporting about the intersection of business and environmental sustainability; and a regular podcast focused on news and issues important to Missouri entrepreneurs.

Events

Missouri Business Alert has hosted a series of events to help connect, inform and entertain our state’s business community. At those events, we’ve enjoyed the chance to shed light on students with big ideas, engage with organizations fueling growth in Missouri, facilitate conversation among some of our state’s leading women entrepreneurs, bring together a tribe of moms making it work, and connect entrepreneurs and professionals through speed networking.

Looking ahead

Our team has some exciting projects and programs in the works that we’ll debut in the near future, including:

  • A new corporate subscription program, coming this summer. Ask us how to get your employees and co-workers subscribed to what we’re doing.
  • Expanded coverage of entrepreneurship in small-town Missouri through our Outstate project.
  • The third installment of our speed networking event, Connect in 8, coming September 19. Find out more and register at connectin8.com.

Of course, we’ll continue to provide you, our loyal supporters, with the same mix of news, information and events that have been staples since the start.

Our birthday wish

What do we want for our birthday? We never thought you’d ask.

(Did we mention they’re 100 percent tax-deductible?)

More than anything, we’d love to hear from you. If you like something we’re doing or want to see something changed, please drop us a line. Your feedback is extremely valuable to helping us grow and improve.

To everyone who has supported, sponsored, advised, read or referred Missouri Business Alert over our first seven years, we are truly grateful. We thank you for your support, and we look forward to providing the information and events that matter to you for many more birthdays to come.
