Business incentive passes Missouri House, stalls in Senate

A proposal to expand Missouri’s tax incentives for businesses has passed the House but faces resistance in the Senate, the Associated Press reports.

The bill passed in the House Monday would allow the Department of Economic Development to issue tax credits to businesses within a year of striking deals to create new jobs.

Proponents in the House say the program would help attract and retain businesses in the state.

However, Senate Republicans have pushed back on the idea and deemed it unnecessary welfare for corporations, according to the AP.
