Sarah Steelman, a former state treasurer and unsuccessful candidate for U.S. Senate in 2012, is poised to take over a key post in Governor-elect Eric Greitens administration.
Steelman, 58, will be director of the governor’s Office of Administration, which oversees budgeting, hiring and purchasing within state government.
Her pending appointment was announced by Greitens’ senior adviser Austin Chambers on Twitter Friday afternoon.
Steelman, who was a state senator before serving as treasurer from 2005 to 2009, has been a fixture on Greitens’ transition team as the political newcomer has worked to move from the private sector into a job as the top official in Missouri.
Greitens, who will be sworn into office on Monday, also has hired former Rep. Caleb Jones, R-Columbia, as his deputy chief of staff.
