Congress considering bills to fund St. Louis-made Boeing jets, NGA complex

Key Missouri-related initiatives have been included in defense bills working their way through Congress.

The House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee Thursday included funding for 24 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets built by Boeing in St Louis.

The Trump administration had asked for 14, but the Republican-led Appropriations Committee, at the behest of the Navy, added funding for an additional 10. The Pentagon had said the Super Hornet fleet had been greatly degraded by use in Syria and elsewhere.

The Senate Armed Services bill also includes “full-funding” for the first-year of construction of a new National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency complex in St. Louis, according to aides to Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. The Trump administration had requested $382 million in its 2018 budget.
