Missouri groups express interest in housing USDA facilities

Seven Missouri entities are among 136 from across the U.S. that have expressed interest in housing two facilities that will bring 700 U.S. Department of Agriculture jobs, the department announced Monday.

The USDA first revealed in August that it plans to move the Economic Research Service (ERS) and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) out of Washington.

Those agencies employ 700 workers with average salaries in excess of $100,000, according to Rep. Vicky Hartzler.

The Missouri groups that have expressed interest are listed below, arranged by proposed location:

  • Kansas City – HPI Group
  • Kansas City – 805 Penn
  • Kansas City metro area – The Kansas City Area Development Council
  • Multiple locations – State of Missouri; Missouri Partnership
  • Springfield – Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce
  • St. Joseph – St Joseph Economic Development Partnership
  • St. Louis – A consortium including the State of Missouri; Missouri’s Departments of Agriculture, Economic Development, and Workforce Development; and the Missouri Partnership

The USDA expects to pick a location or locations by January 2019.
