MU headed for ‘stronger position’ financially, chancellor says

University of Missouri Chancellor Alexander Cartwright said in an interview that the university’s financial situation for the next year will be challenging but manageable.

“From there, we’ll be in a much stronger position and be able to do all the things that we want to do,” Cartwright said.

Cartwright, who became MU chancellor in May 2017, announced the elimination of 185 positions in his first month on the job.

However, Cartwright pointed to a bump in freshman enrollment this year and said his second year he will be focused on research, affordability and retention rates.
