The St. Louis Economic Development Partnership on Wednesday moved closer to a $13.5 million expansion that would double the size of the Helix Center, its biotech incubator in Creve Coeur.
The plan approved by the partnership’s board is designed to accommodate the growth of Benson Hill Biosystems, a rapidly expanding company that specializes in gene analyzing and sequencing.
If it’s finalized, the expansion would mark another step toward the partnership’s vision of turning the area around Bayer’s Creve Coeur campus and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center into a hub for agribusiness.
The Helix Center was opened in 2012 to provide low-cost office space and labs to startups.
Benson Hill announced last month that it had raised $60 million in a round led by GV, the venture arm of tech giant Alphabet.
