Centene will keep Michael Neidorff as CEO until 2023 and executive chairman until 2024, according to documents filed Monday.
Neidorff joined the Clayton-based health insurer in 1996 as president and chairman. He has served as Centene’s chief executive since 2004.
During his tenure, Neidorff has overseen substantial expansion of the company through acquisitions. In 2016, Centene bought Health Net, a health insurer in Los Angeles, for over $6 billion. That same year, Centene joined Standard &Poor’s 500 Index.
Centene awarded Neidorff a $4.5 million bonus in 2017 after its revenue spiked 19 percent to over $48 billion, according to a proxy statement filed in March 2018.
The following year, Centene closed a $3.75 billion deal in 2018 to acquire Fidelis, a nonprofit insurer in New York.
