Former Cabela’s employees open online store despite Bass Pro legal challenge

A group of former Cabela’s employees has opened an online store that sells outdoor products, despite a legal challenge from Bass Pro Shops claiming the owners have violated noncompete agreements.

Springfield-based Bass Pro acquired Cabela’s in 2017 for $4 billion.

Highby Outdoors launched its retail website Monday. Former Cabela’s employees Matt and Molly Highby own the company, and all of their employees formerly worked for Cabela’s.

Bass Pro Shops had sued the Highbys for violating noncompete agreements, but lost a bid for an injunction.
