Washington University in St. Louis leads the way for professor pay in Missouri.
The Chronicle of Higher Education surveyed 135 colleges and universities in Missouri to determine the average 2017-18 salaries of professors, associate professors, assistant professors, instructors, lecturers and other faculty in different institutions. (Although the Chronicle data set distinguishes between professors and other academic ranks, this story focuses on the top pay tier.)
Washington University ranked first in the state with an average annual professor salary of $195,887. Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences-Joplin was second in the ranking. The Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla rounded out the top three.
Professors across the state received an average salary of $107,507 in the 2017-18 academic year. The data showed disparity between genders in professor pay: women made an average of $97,243, and men averaged pay of $113,013.
