Macy’s, Kohl’s and Gap have announced they will furlough the majority of their employees in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Associated Press reports.
Combined, the clothing retailers employ more than 350,000 workers across the country.
The companies are planning to operate under an “absolute minimum workforce” while most storefronts are temporarily closed.
Kohl’s has 26 stores in Missouri. Macy’s has 11, and Gap has seven.
The number of furloughed employees raises the question of how many employees will be permanently laid off.
