More road construction projects on hold amid coronavirus budget cuts

About 20 road construction projects across Missouri are on hold after state spending was cut last week, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The construction of an additional lane on Interstate 70 in O’Fallon and a new roadway in St. Charles could be affected. In addition, $1 million for airport improvements in Warrensburg and $500,000 to study an interstate bypass around Hannibal have been withheld.

Gov. Mike Parson announced in December that 20 transportation projects would receive $50 million through a transportation cost-share program.

However, the state transportation department put the projects on hold until July 1 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

In the meantime, lawmakers decreased that $50 million budget to $25 million. Parson cut another $6.4 million last week when he announced more than $200 million in cuts to state programs.
