St. Louis County casinos say they will lay off over 750

Two casinos in St. Louis County will lay off more than 750 employees next month, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Hollywood Casino says it will lay off 455 people permanently beginning Aug 15. River City Casino says it will permanently lay off 329 people. Both casinos are owned by Penn National Gaming.

Most employees at the casinos had been on unpaid furlough since April 1.

Both casinos opened Tuesday after being shut down for three months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Other area casinos have also filed layoff notices, including the Ameristar St. Charles, which announced it will lay off between 25% and 60% of its workforce next month.
