Starbucks to add plant-based meat substitute to US menu

Starbucks will add plant-based meat to its menu in the U.S., the Associated Press reports.

Imitation sausage from Impossible Foods will be available in the majority of storefronts.

The company said the move comes as it tries to reduce its environmental impact.

There are 188 Starbucks in Missouri, according to Spoon University. In 2018, vegetarians made up 4% of the population in the Midwest, according to a Gallup poll.

The new plant-based option will be a breakfast sandwich consisting off imitation sausage, egg and cheese.

This year, Starbucks has also introduced plant-based meat substitutes in China and Canada.
