Missouri sees single-day record for new COVID-19 cases

Missouri and the U.S. have set single-day records for increases in confirmed COVID-19 cases this week.

Missouri saw its largest increase on Tuesday, with with 430 new positive tests, the Columbia Missourian reports.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the infectious disease chief at the National Institutes for Health, asked people to take precautions during a critical time for containing the virus.

In Missouri, Gov. Mike Parson said increased case counts are the result of increased testing and not the beginning of a second wave of outbreaks. Parson said he had no plans to close the state again despite the rising case count.

As of Tuesday, Missouri had a total of 18,584 confirmed cases and 966 deaths.
