Missouri hit a new milestone on Tuesday when the number of COVID-19 related deaths surpassed 1,000, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The top four largest increases in confirmed cases in Missouri all happened last week, the top being 553 on Thursday.
With the increase in cases, Missouri hospitals are beginning to see an influx of new patients. Hospitals are concerned that they may once again see a decline in elective procedures or tightened visitor restrictions.
The largest increases are being seen in the southwest corner of the state, although Kansas City is seeing more as well.
Experts in infectious disease fear that with the lifted restrictions, they could begin seeing more cases than during the first wave.
