Missouri saw the largest one-day spike in confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 773 new cases on Tuesday, the AP reports. The health department attributes this sharp increase to a lag in communication between the labs and the state.
The number of cases reported on July 4 was 59, which leads officials to believe these high numbers are due to few tests being processed over the holiday weekend.
Officials expect another day of high numbers on Wednesday due to delayed reporting.
Missouri hospitals have also begun to see more patients admitted due to COVID-19. There has been an average of 700 daily hospitalizations in comparison to the roughly 600 seen last week.
