Walmart, the world’s biggest retailer announced it will require shoppers to wear face masks beginning Monday, Reuters reports.
Major retailers including Kroger Co., Kohl’s Corp., Costco and Target also plan to enforce mask mandates in the coming weeks.
Walmart which has more than 150 retail units in Missouri accepted the health measure as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. The retailer has created a new role called “Health Ambassador” for employees who will guide customers at storefronts on the new policy.
65% of Walmart’s 5000 stores are in areas where mask mandates are already in place, the company said.
“If a customer refuses to adhere to store policies, they are putting employees and other customers at undue risk,” the National Retail Foundation told Reuters.
