Missouri workers join global ‘Strike for Black Lives’

Thousands of workers walked off the job Monday in protest of systemic racism and economic inequality, the Associated Press reports.

Workers in Ferguson and St. Louis took part in the protest, called the “Strike for Black Lives.”

Organizers of the event included labor unions and social justice organizations. They said 20,000 workers in 160 cities participated.

Large corporations, such as McDonald’s and Walmart, were the focus of the demonstrations.

Protesters said the event was driven by mistreatment and exploitation of people of color working essential jobs.
