Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has bought partial ownership of the Kansas City Royals, the team announced Tuesday. This move makes 24-year-old Mahomes the youngest owner in sports history.
“We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise,” John Sherman, the Kansas City Royals chairman, CEO and principal owner said in the announcement.
Sherman also commented on Mahomes’ leadership skills on and off of the football field.
This decision comes shortly after Mahomes signed a 10 year, $450 million extension with the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I love this city and the people of this great town,” Mahomes said. “This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”
