Google Fiber Implications Are Here

Rival Kansas City-area TV and Internet providers want the same perks given to Google Inc.The Wall Street Journal reports.

Google has received free office space, free power for its equipment, free use of all the cities’ “assets and infrastructure” and government employees for the project, according to the report.

Current providers Time Warner Cable Inc.(NYSE: TWC) and AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) have been negotiating with Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., to get the same concessions as Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), which picked the two cities for its coveted Google Fiber ultra-fast broadband and TV network. Time Warner Cable has succeeded with KCMO and is pursuing the same deal with KCK, and AT&T has come to KCMO seeking a similar deal, theJournal reports, citing a person familiar with the matter.
