Former Instructor at MSU’s China Branch Sues Over Firing

A former business instructor at Missouri State University’s business college in Dalian, China has sued MSU, alleging he was fired based on his race. MSU operates the business college in partnership with Liaoning Normal University.

Marvel Ma, 38, who is of Chinese ancestry and a citizen of the United States, sued in 2011. The lawsuit apparently is the first time MSU has been sued in connection to its many cooperative agreements with foreign universities.

Ma could not be reached for comment. He has a current student profile listing at the Nicholas Center for Corporate Finance and Investment Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He is an MBA student there, according to his attorney.

His lawsuit is slated for a jury trial on June 3.
