Kansas City-area employers will be looking to hire veterans and military spouses at a Thursday career fair.
The “Hiring Our Heroes” event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City. More than 400 job seekers are expected to interact with at least 39 veteran-friendly employers such as General Motors, Bayer, CVS, Convergys, Lowes and Union Pacific Railroad. Available positions include areas such as maintenance, administrative and IT.
RecruitMilitary LLC and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the event, which is designed to answer the Veteran Hiring Challenge in the American Jobs Act, which President Obama signed into law in November. The act states that businesses may claim tax credits worth as much as $5,600 for each unemployed veteran hired, depending on how long the veteran has been unemployed.
