KC Fed Index Shows Less Financial Stress in Markets

The nation’s financial system was under less stress in September, the fourth drop in a row, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Its index weighs various interest rates and trends in stocks to measure the degree of anxiety in credit markets, the banking system and other financial elements of the economy. During the 2008 financial crisis, for example, it soared past 5.0 but is normally between 1 and minus 1. A minus sign shows the stress level is below the average since 1990.
